Street Wisdom

Anyone who has ever walked with me anywhere will know that I’m always looking around me for interesting things to photograph. It’s not just because I love photographing things, it’s because I’m always looking for inspiration. This is something I’ve done for a long time, and I find it amazing the random things you can spot even on a route you’ve walked a million times before.

But normally I’m still walking with a destination in mind. It’s only in recent years that I’ve embraced wandering. Taking my time. Seeing which way the wind takes me. Wandering with no clear destination or, if I do have a destination in mind, not being too prescriptive about the route I take.

‘Wandering’ by David Pearl has been on to read list since I was first introduced to Street Wisdom a couple of years ago. I’ve still not read the book but have been on a couple of guided solo and group Street Wisdom walks since discovering it. It’s been a great way to find answers to problems, look for new ways of thinking about things or just discover something new on my doorstep.

All sorts of things jump out at me as I wander, but words of wisdom are the things that really resonate with me. Either reaffirming something I already know, acting as a reminder at an appropriate time or just making me think, these are some of the words I’ve spotted on the streets this year that have stood out to me.

Do any of these resonate with you? What have the streets been saying to you recently?
