Going away is always fun, but there’s nothing like getting home again. Back to your own environment, your creature comforts and the problems caused by others that you had forgotten about.
This week has been tiring and I was looking forward to getting home, having a takeaway and curling up on the sofa to catch up on the last couple of days. Instead I’ve been reminded how unintuitive ‘smart’ devices are when you have to connect them to a new WiFi network. Whilst I’ve been away, Three deactivated our existing home broadband before we had a chance to set up the new router that apparently was going to be the answer to all my internet connection problems. My initial experience suggests it is just going to create new problems.*
I really could’ve done without that tonight. I was assured there would be no disruption and I was looking forward to dealing with this at my only convenience. I’ve given up getting everything working as it did before I went away until I’ve got the energy to deal with setting things up again.
On top of that, Deliveroo didn’t deliver our full order and we had to deal with them rejecting our claim for compensation and the restaurant in question admitting it was their mistake but only offering to give us something free the next time we order. Umm, I’m not sure I want to order again from someone who clearly doesn’t want to resolve the issues they caused.
Evenings like this make me long for the good old days before we were so reliant on technology. Technology is meant to make our lives easier, and in many ways it does, but right now I want to go back to how things used to be when life just seemed so much simpler.
The fact that my phone decided to start playing up quite dramatically while I was away really hasn’t helped matters. It’s lasted about five years, which isn’t bad for a phone, but I was hoping I wouldn’t have to buy a new phone until I was ready. Looks like I’ll be paying a visit to the fruit store tomorrow.
I appreciate this all makes me sound like a grumpy old woman, and in many ways I am. But it’s so frustrating when these unnecessary issues are caused by companies that are unable to deliver on the service they are paid for.
