Turns out there are worse places to join a Zoom call than my local church graveyard. I was off work today and had plans to meet a friend for lunch so I opted to get out of the flat for the day.
Pub opening hours and technology thwarted my original plans, but fortunately the sun was shining, so despite it being pretty cold, I opted to take a pew in the garden behind St Giles’ church in Camberwell for an interesting and inspiring hour long chat with fellow Mapping Your Path community members in Paris, North Carolina and Houston.
I joined the call feeling pretty meh and unsure of how to make the changes needed to get back on the right track after a few topsy turvy weeks. By the end of the call I had new ideas for managing all those things whirring around in my brain (I’m going to start audio journaling using the Apple Journal app), a fresh perspective on how to make the most of the flexibility my job offers and a desire to organise a little solo trip somewhere for a mini adventure. Hearing the challenges other people are facing or looking for the positives in difficult situations really helped put into perspective how I’ve been reacting to things.
Despite having been inside the church many times before, I only discovered the churchyard during those early days of lockdown walks. I normally have these calls sitting at my desk, but this experience reminded me of the benefit of getting away from the desk to think and come to solutions, rather than just staring at a blank screen. Walking and talking, or walking and thinking, is definitely something I need to embed into my daily routine.
