Danger Mouse

As you walk north on Baker Street, heading away from the tube station, you will see a familiar sight on the street corner – a red pillar postbox. But this is no ordinary postbox. This is the home of “the greatest secret agent in the world” – Danger Mouse.

For those not in the know, Danger Mouse is a cult British TV cartoon that ran from 1981 to 1991, and was one of my favourite cartoons as a child. Danger Mouse (DM) along with his sidekick Penfold, a mole, worked for the secret service to save the world from the evil Baron Greenback. As soon as I think of the series I can immediately hear their voices in my head. Afterall they were voiced by TV legends David Jason, as DM, and Terry Scott as Penfold.

I don’t know when the postbox was adorned with a blue plaque (a sticker version) but that’s something I’ve seen before. Today as I walked past there was an added bonus – a Danger Mouse crocheted postbox topper!

It was only because the Bakerloo line was off that I found myself walking from Baker Street to Marylebone, but I’m glad I did as spotting this really made me smile. As a beginner crochet I’m always amazed when I see the creations people make to put on the streets to bring joy to others.

A new version of the series was brought back for a new generation of fans in 2015, so this postbox topper was bringing joy to multiple generations. I’ve no idea who made it and put it there but thank you whoever you are.
