I was walking down the colourful alleyway between Kingly Street and Regent Street last night and was practically blinded by the dull brightness of a rail of white clothes in a shop window. As I walked round the front of the shop I saw it was Calvin Klein and their new collection for summer – and it was entirely white. I know I’m not their target customer so I’m sure they won’t care that I had a very negative reaction to their ‘monochromatic summer’ collection.

We’re advised to wear white in the summer as it’s said that white clothing reflects heat and sunlight, helping to keep your body temperature down, but wearing it head to toe feels a little extreme.
It’s like going from one extreme to another – dark clothes in the winter, white clothes in the summer. I know I dress like a rainbow most days, and I’m sure that’s not everyone’s cup of tea, but I’ve witnessed first hand the joy that colourful outfits bring to the people wearing them and people they encounter.
Wear what you want, as long as it makes you happy and you’re not just doing it because it’s this week’s fashion trend. But I can assure you that seeing a load of people dressing so plainly during the summer months seems the complete opposite of what we should be doing.
I know I dress like a rainbow most days but I’ll be print for a polychromatic summer thank you.
