Asparagus season

Asparagus season is without a doubt one of my favourite times of the year. I’m pretty strict when buying my veg that it hasn’t been flown half way round the world, but I always find it hard to resist when it comes to asparagus.

To compensate for not buying the ones flown in from Peru, I really make the most of the couple of months from late April to June when UK grown asparagus is available.

Five minutes after I bought some the other night my mum messaged to say she had some for me from her garden. Ok, the bought ones were from Spain and my mum lives in France, but I can cope with them having come from Europe.

Each year I try and find new ways to cook it but I do think it’s best just steamed and served with melted butter, salt and pepper. Tonight I threw some in a risotto, a perfect quick and easy dinner to cook after a busy day. There’s still more to enjoy another night. so if you have any recipe suggestions let me know.
